Figs are girls from the country, plump, they run straight to the big sizes in the back of the Levis store and the zipper just doesn’t want to go up on the first try. Soft to the touch, with a bead of sugar, they’re ready to pick. Here is a not so high calorie dessert to prepare for winter.
Slice your freshly picked figs using a good sharp knife. Spread the slices on a deep dinner plate. Then dice lemon zests and throw them in boiling water for a minute. Dry them, and then sprinkle over the figs.
Pour over this preparation a little red Porto, choose a LBV (Late Bottled Vintage) not very old. Ferreira never disappoints. Let marinate one or two hours well covered. Figs are not good cold neither is Port. Its the secret to serving this (excellent) recipe.
What to drink? Kill guilt with water, Luso - glass bottle – serve cool , not too cold : 12°. Portugal owes to its Latinity, its geology, its geography a choice of water of exceptional quality and the Portuguese are experts. The majority come from the north of Portugal. No one’s perfect.
